Blood, Sweat and Ink: Wits AfroManga

Blood, Sweat and Ink: Wits AfroManga
African comics by AfroMangaka
Who We Are
Blood, Sweat and Ink is an annual AfroManga compendium developed by fourth-year students at the Wits Digital Arts Department. The ultimate goal of each compendium is to foster AfroManga as a legitimate storytelling medium tailored to African voices, by combining the structural influences of Japanese manga with Africanized storytelling motifs.
Blood, Sweat and Ink is the only project of its kind - continuously producing unique outputs that speak to the African voice as a competitive entity in the global creative space.
Compendiums
The Blood, Sweat and Ink compendium is released annually, towards the end of the academic year. Each volume contains a variety of independent chapters that combine the styling and paneling techniques of Japanese manga, with a narrative focus on Southern African culture and identity. Physical copies of each volume are printed only once, and are funded by donations and fundraising initiatives curated by the annual volume's contributors.
Our Creatives
Creative diversity is one of our core values. Each year, a new group of budding artists and writers work together to develop several independent chapters for the compendium. With so much talent on display, it's important for us to keep track of our participants and the opportunities they deserve. We have taken care to catalogue our creatives into an easy-to-use database, which contains all of the information you need to contact them directly!
